To close the book on Wednesday's "snow storm", here is a post mortem -
In most southern and eastern locations (city, southern Westchester, coastal Connecticut), the snow did not start in earnest until the morning. During the day as surface temperatures rose through the upper 20s, enough cold air aloft kept the precipitation frozen, but it was a snow/sleet/freezing rain mix, which kept accumulations low (1-2 inches).
Central Park - 2.0 inches
JFK - 1.4 inches
As you moved north and west of the city, accumulations were higher. 1-2 feet fell in upstate New York, especially near the Capital District, Poconos, and inland New England (VT, New Hampshire).
Cornell in Ithaca, NY received 17 inches (9 on Wednesday and 8 on Thursday) and was forced to close due to heavy snow.
