Arctic air + pacific energy + blocking = snow

It’s bitterly cold in the entire Northeast today. The ECMWF shows some of the coldest spots in the Adirondacks (-9 F), with -5F in the Green and Catskills mountains. I’ve got 16 near me on LI with a wind chill low of 3 just before sunrise at 6:30.

We are still on track for a major winter storm starting early Tue morning. This will be a long duration event with potential for more than 6” of snow.
